Seafood and Health The medical community overwhelmingly recommends that we all eat seafood regularly. Seafood is a lean source of protein, and many species are full of Omega 3's that have been found to help prevent heart disease, eczema, arthritis, inflammation, autoimmune disease, hypertension, cancer and even depression. WebMD states: "Seafood is regarded as an important part of a balanced diet, primarily because it contains high-quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids. The latter prevents blood from clotting and protects against irregular heartbeats. The heart-health benefits of fish are so pronounced that the AHA recommends at least two servings of it a week, particularly fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon, since they contain omega-3 fatty acids." What is Sustainable Fishing? Sustainable fishing is fishing that does no damage to marine environments or ecosystems, and helps maintain fish populations plentiful enough to support thriving fisheries.
